Black Friday Finds12:14 AM
Ok, I admit it. I join the throngs of shoppers who venture out in the wee hours of the morning the day after Thanksgiving. It's actually become more than a shopping venture but a fun time for Jeremy and I to do something together. Somehow the past several years we've been with the grandparents on Black Friday, so we've been able to leave the kids behind and go on our little "date." Seeing the masses, we wondered how this nation could be in such a bad economic slump we've been hearing so much about on the other side of the world. Hmmm....
I love a good deal but to avoid overspending I meticulously plan out my shopping venture. Thanksgiving day, after a full stomach, I pore over the ads and make a list of where to find the best deals on the items already on my Christmas list. This makes my shopping faster and not browsing helps me to stay in my budget. Then I come home and calculate my savings!
I can't reveal all of my Black Friday Finds because it will spoil some friend's and family's Christmas surprises! But one of my special finds was some lovely yarn and knitting needles. Inspired by fellow blogger, soulemama, I have wanted to learn the art of knitting. I'm always fascinated by the amazing things you can make with your hands. Handmade items speak so much love as you take the time to create.
Although I love the excitement of finding the perfect gift at half the price, I am disgusted at what happened to one WalMart employee, Jdimytai Damour, who was trampled to death in the stampede of shoppers to get their loot. If greed is what ensues in the hearts of people, I say ditch the fabulous deals. People's lives are far more precious than what we can buy with dollars.
