she touched him :: risk

12:36 AM

With my 2012 "word" being risk, I am studying risk takers in the Bible.
It's fascinating to learn these nuggets from Bible greats.

Last week, after writing about risk and it being heavy on my heart, I felt compelled to study some risk takers in the Bible.  The very first person that came to mind was the woman with a hemorrhage who touched Jesus' cloak in the crowd.  I wonder if she felt the same feelings I've felt after hearing a renowned speaker and wanting to talk to him/her afterwards but feeling a mixture of fear and anxiety.  But then the thought comes, "When will I have another chance?  The time is NOW!"

I love her beautiful display of faith as she seized the moment and touched Him.  I imagine it was a light, gentle touch which made Jesus taking notice of it all the more powerful.  I truly believe that the roadblock to risk taking is fear.  It's gripping and can paralyze us from walking in obedience.  My prayer for the year is that, when God speaks, even though it might seem "risky," faith would triumph fear and lead me down the path to obedience.

Scripture reference...Mark 5:25-34.

  1. That is one of my favorite stories. It's amazing that with just her faith and courage she was able to be healed. I never thought about the risk though. That's such a great new perspective.

  2. It's true, risk just in Christ.

  3. What a beautifully designed graphic! I like your insights, too - especially about seizing the moment when it's there. I like to remind myself that it's better to have tried and failed than never to have tried at all!

  4. i love that your 2012 word is risk. there's just many amazing possibilities.

  5. I love that story also. It isn't usually fear that keeps me from doing something, but I think that I don't want to bother the other person. She didn't bother Jesus - she just touched him and he noticed!

  6. I love the idea of studying risk takers from the Bible!

  7. You know she was fearful. And, she still followed her convictions. Love this, Jen. Don't know how I got so far behind! The photos of Joshua playing basketball are great; he is intent! Your Valentine photos are too cute. Wish we were closer... the next time the Little Men come to town, we may have to try to make it to your neck of the woods. blessings ~ tanna
