harriet beamer takes the bus {review}

Whenever I have an upcoming trip, I always pick a book to take with me. My book of choice for our Texas to Connecticut drive was Harriet Beamer Takes The Bus, an easy fiction read that I thoroughly enjoyed.

The extent of Harriet Beamer's gambling is limited to Bingo, but that doesn't mean that she doesn't take winning and losing very seriously. After losing a bet to her son and daughter-in-law on whether or not her ankle was broken, she faced her loss and sold her house in Pennsylvania to move to California to live with her son, Henry, and his wife, Prudence. She didn't take the easy road, though. No, she went on an adventure, taking only public transportation to get clear across the country.

Walking

Although the beginning was a little slow to draw me in, once I got in a few chapters, I loved it. I loved that 70 year old Harriet Beamer took a huge risk. She didn't let age get in the way of her dream to travel and see outside the radius of where her and her husband raised their son. I mean, honestly, I can't imagine taking public transport from the East coast to the West coast.

If you're in the mood for a fun fiction read that might just inspire you to dream and risk, no matter your age or other things you might see as obstacles, then I suggest Harriet Beamer Takes The Bus!

  2. Wow! I've tried to get from Allen to DFW on public transport, and that was no easy task. Can't imagine going clear across the country by bus, unless Greyhound counts? If so, I've done that from Garland to Rolla. A pretty weird experience!
